Tools used for footcare must be sterilized. There are different methods of sterilizing available to health care professionals. The preferred method of sterilizing foot care tools according to Public Health Ontario, is a steam sterilizer (also called an autoclave). This method is recommended because the process and the result can be tracked and verified. The steam sterilization method is preferred because there is testing done throughout the process to ensure the tools used on our clients are sterile. These tests are documented, and the results are kept for ten years.
For your protection, tools used by Professional Footcare nurses are properly sterilized using a steam sterilizer. All our staff are trained to use the sterilizer and follow the Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee’s guidelines.
